2025 iPad Pro production is reportedly already underway, as both Samsung and LG began making the displays earlier this month. The new models are expected to launch toward the end of the year, with October a likely bet.
However, the high pricing of the OLED iPad Pro models is said to have deterred many potential buyers last year, and the same is expected to be true this year …
Digitimes cites a Korean report.
As reported by ZDNet Korea, Samsung Display (SDC) and LG Display (LGD) began mass production of OLED panels for the new iPads in June 2025.
Apple has typically launched new iPad Pro models in either the spring or the fall, with October the most common month for a fall release.
However, a research report suggests that sales may be muted.
UBI Research estimates that SDC and LGD shipped a combined 6.3 million OLED panels for iPads in 2024, falling significantly short of the initial 9 million-unit forecast.
Analysts point to tepid consumer demand, driven by the premium pricing of OLED iPad Pros, as the key factor behind the shortfall. Despite the muted performance, OLED panel shipments for 2025 are expected to remain on par with 2024 levels.
Apple’s longer–term goal is to switch all iPad models to OLED, just as it did with iPhones, but this is expected to take some time to roll out. The iPad mini is expected to be next in line, in 2026, with the iPad Air following in 2027.
Another longer–term objective is greater diversity in Apple’s supply–chain for the OLED panels. So far, Apple is expected to equalize supply by Samsung and LG for the first time this year, but plans to bring Chinese display maker BOE into the mix are reportedly not going well.
BOE continues to face technical hurdles, particularly in achieving the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED display standards required by Apple. BOE’s failure to obtain quality certification for LTPO panels intended for the iPhone 16 Pro has further cast doubt on its readiness to support iPad-grade OLED demands.
The company is expected to solve its problems in time, but not as quickly as either party had hoped.
