Best early Prime Day Kindle deals: My favorite sales live now

5 hours ago 1

Prime Day is back tomorrow. That's right: Amazon's deal-a-palooza runs July 8 through July 11, when Prime members can score discounts and savings on household items and everyday tech.

Get daily deals straight to your inbox during Prime Day when you sign up for ZDNET Recommends, your one-stop newsletter for the sale.

One of the more fruitful categories of savings during the deals event tends to be Kindles, which are Amazon-owned, so you can be sure that the company will cut prices to sell them during Prime Day. So, what does that mean for you? You should probably buy one during Prime Day and avoid jumping on one too soon ahead of time.

But let's say you want a new Kindle right now. I've compiled a few good deals on the e-readers you can shop in the meantime. Keep reading for more.

Best Kindle deals ahead of Prime Day 2025

  • CoBak Kindle Scribe Case for $18 (save $3): This waterproof leather case comes with a pen holder and is under $20 right now.
  • CoBak Kindle Hand Strap for $5 (save $1): This hand strap secures your Kindle, and it costs less than a coffee from Starbucks.
  • Kindle Essentials Bundle with 2024 base model Kindle: $122 (save $40): I tested and loved the base model Kindle that debuted last year and highly recommend it to those purchasing their first e-reader. This bundle combines the Kindle with a fabric cover and an adapter.
  • International Kindle Oasis: $175 (save $175): This Kindle Oasis has a wider screen and a handrest. While this deal is amazing and half off, it's important to note that the e-reader isn't available to buy within the US.
  • Amazon Kindle Scribe 64GB: $310 (save $140): A Kindle and a notebook, all in one. Write notes on the pages of the book you're reading or create notes and lists on a blank sheet.
  • Kindle Scribe Essentials Bundle: $300 (save $200): Complete with pen and folio, this Scribe Essentials bundle gives you everything you need for Amazon's notebook/e-reader hybrid.
  • Kindle Paperwhite Essentials Bundle: $155 (save $62): The Kindle Paperwhite is built for avid e-readers looking for a sharper display and longer battedry life. This bundle combines the Paperwhite with a black fabric cover and an adapter. Available colors include Black, Jade, or Raspberry.
  • Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet: $70 (save $70): If you want something a little bit more versatile and affordable than a Kindle, we'd recommend the Amazon Fire Tablet. You'll have access to the Kindle app, plus streaming services, email, and web-surfing.
  • Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet: $55 (save $45): The HD 8 tablet is a little smaller and more portable than the HD 10 mentioned above.
  • Current price: $122
  • Original price: $162

In the market for a base model Kindle, a case, and an adapter? You can get this bundle offer with the matcha green base model Kindle for $15 off right now.

If you're looking for a premium e-reader to read books, magazines, and news off of, we recommend the Kindle Paperwhite over the base model. The e-reader is waterproof with a glare-free screen, so you can read it while lying out in the sun on those pool and beach days without having to squint. It packs more storage for all those books you're reading and survives off double the battery life than the base model.

As with the other Kindle Essentials bundle, this deal comes with a power adapter, a jade, raspberry, or black fabric cover, and, of course, a Kindle Paperwhite.

This 50% off deal only applies to people outside the US, so if that's you, I'd suggest jumping on this ASAP. I have tried out the Kindle Oasis and enjoy its ergonomic hand rest and wider display.

The best Kindle accessory deals ahead of Prime Day 2025

When is Amazon Prime Day 2025?

Amazon Prime Day takes place from July 8 through July 11 this year. During the sale, the retailer cuts prices on thousands of products (and many products from brands it owns, like Kindle, Alexa, Ring, and more).

Are Kindles really cheaper on Prime Day?

Because Kindles fall under one of the many brands Amazon owns, Amazon will normally drop prices during Prime Day on them. I've been covering these Kindle deals for over two years, and I can almost guarantee that there will be a price drop on the devices during the four-day event.

How did we choose these Prime Day deals?

ZDNET only writes about deals we want to buy -- devices and products we desire, need, or would recommend. Our experts looked for deals that were at least 20% off (or are hardly ever on sale), using established price comparison tools and trackers to determine whether the deal is actually on sale and how frequently it drops.

We also looked over customer reviews to find out what matters to real people who already own and use the deals we're recommending. Our recommendations may also be based on our own testing -- in addition to extensive research and comparison shopping. The goal is to deliver the most accurate advice to help you shop smarter.
