Summary
- People really liked the new Office icons shown by Microsoft in a survey.
- The officially unreleased icons were made available by a fan on Reddit.
- The fan-made icons are downloadable and resemble the leaked Microsoft icons, with slight variations.
Hey, remember those sweet new Office icons Microsoft showed to a select group of people in April? The company sent a survey around asking if people liked them, and it turns out that people really, really liked them. It's at the point where people are looking at their current icons and wishing the new ones were out already.
Well, the bad news is, there's no guarantee that the icons will ever officially be released. They were test icons, after all, and Microsoft has no obligation to ever actually use them, no matter how much we like them. The good news is, someone has gotten impatient and made the icons themselves for you to use.
These fan-made Office icons are perfect for those who can't wait
In a post on the Windows 11 subreddit, user Thunder_Ruler0 took to the board to post their takes on the Microsoft Office revamped icons. They may only be fan-made, but they're better than nothing:
Just to be clear, none of this is officially from Microsoft. I cleaned up the leaked icons, downscaled, upscaled, cleaned, then used SORA (DALLE-3) to re-generate the leaked icons using my own higher resolution reference material.
Yes I know they're not perfect. No I'm not going to spend more than the 2 hours I already put into this to make them flawless. At the size of desktop icons, the flaws aren't noticeable unless you're pixel peeping though I might make adjustments if they bother me enough as I use them.
If you want to give them a spin for yourself, head over to the Google Drive link and give them a download. It's a bit of a shock to see the Outlook icon as gold instead of blue, but people on the Reddit thread did make a good point that Outlook was originally a nice yellow before it was shifted to blue. Staying true to the roots.
Not sure how to set up those images as icons for your PC? Don't fret; our sister website How To Geek created a lovely guide on how to customize your icons in Windows 11.
