What's better than a Nerf gun war? A technologically advanced Nerf gun war. People have found all kinds of ways to modify their Nerf guns, but I've never seen someone create one with a 3D printer and a Raspberry Pi. Well, if you're in the mood to declare war from the comfort of your own desk, this SwarmTurret project seems like just the thing you're looking for.

In a post on the 3DPrinting subreddit, user HipsterOptimized gave us a look at this powerful Nerf turret. It's called the SwarmTurret, and it uses a combination of 3D printing and some Raspberry Pi magic to make a desk-based Nerf dart launcher.

You can see it in action in the video below. Not only can you control it with your phone over your network, but it has a camera through which you can see what you're aiming at:

HipsterOptimized describes his project like this:

This is an updated version of a printed Nerf turret with streaming video controlled via web browser. It's powered by a raspberry pi 5 and three servos for the X axis, Y axis and firing control. The turret has a dedicated mobile and desktop web interface that is accessible on the local network.

Fortunately, they were kind enough to create a guide on how you, too, could wreak havoc on anyone who dares step within ten feet of your office space. You can see the SwarmTurret: Wifi Controlled Foam Dart Turret guide over on Instructables, download the 3D model you'll need to print out over on Printables, and check out all of the code used to bring this project to life on GitHub.

If you want to use your SBCs for a much more pacifist-oriented cause, there are plenty of things you can do with one to help you around the office that won't cause a full-blown arms race. For example, our own Ayush Pande has been hard at work finding all of the creative uses for a Raspberry Pi in a home office setup. They even managed to turn their old Raspberry Pi into a home office suite that's better than Microsoft 365, so there's a lot you can do with these humble SBCs.
