It's great to travel just about anywhere in the world. Modern marvels such as the aeroplane, lithium-ion batteries, and the automobile have allowed us to enjoy the wonders of the world without much effort. Compared to decades passed when you'd have to allocate weeks to traverse continents, you can now achieve this in mere hours, mostly in comfort that those back then could only imagine. What's more, we're able to take our digital lives with us, thanks to cloud computing, hefty battery tech, and incredible technological advances that allowed for the smartphone. This single device has all of your data in the palm of your hand, but some unsung heroes don't get the same recognition.
That's what we're hoping to change with XDA Travel Week!
It's not all about the laptop
Though it plays a vital role in keeping you connected
When one thinks about travel accessories and gear, the laptop is usually the first port of call. It's what many believe to be the centerpiece of a frequent traveller's backpack, but that couldn't be further from the truth. It's actually your smartphone ... and all the various services you pay for to access content, be it travel companion apps, media streaming platforms, or cloud storage. But what about self-hosting as much of this ahead of your travels?
That's what we try to do here at XDA, when we're not smashing skulls in the latest DOOM game, crunching numbers with the best laptops, or figuring out what else we can containerize through Proxmox. We'll come up with new ways to get the most out of devices you already own. Not to mention a few recommendations as to how you can improve a few things to enjoy your vacation that little bit more.

Here's how I access all of my self-hosted services while I'm traveling
There are a lot of different ways to access your self-hosted services when away, but here's what works for me.
Get more from your tech
With our helpful guides and features

It's important to plan ahead and decide what you intend to bring with you on your travels, what the itinerary would require, and if there's anything that could improve your journeys. You'll want to consider headphones, portable battery packs, and anything else that can make a five-hour (if not longer) plane ride that little bit less unbearable without remortgaging the house for a seat upgrade. Why not bring an all-SSD NAS on your travels for the sake of it?
Self-hosting can become a vital piece of the puzzle when it comes to running apps and services to keep you connected with others while away, checking in with your home security, or even streaming all your favorite movies, shows, and music using media files purchased from legitimate sources. We'll get creative as Travel Week gets underway, and you'll see some insightful takes from our team on how to make the most of your tech (sometimes without spending a penny more).
