Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition featured

Summary

  • Microsoft expands the Xbox brand into hardware partnerships for wider device compatibility.
  • Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition boasts a sleek design and doesn't need an external screen.
  • Limited edition Meta Quest includes exclusive Xbox-colored hardware and controller for immersive gameplay.

With other gaming companies focusing on exclusivity deals, Microsoft has a very unique goal: to make as many devices as possible into an Xbox. Not just manufacturing more Xbox consoles, but also teaming up with other hardware companies to produce Xbox-branded hardware to cover other niches. It's a smart move; instead of starting from ground zero in hardware spaces which it has no experience.

We've already seen Microsoft's foray into the handheld market with the ROG Ally Xbox edition, and now the company has announced its partnership with Meta to release the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition. And I'm not going to lie; it looks pretty sleek.

Bundle - Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition

On the Meta website, the company shows off its brand new limited-edition Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition. There doesn't seem to be any changes to the internal hardware versus the regular Meta Quest 3S; however, you do score some exclusive Xbox-colored hardware and a controller to boot.

Here's how they describe this new limited edition Meta Quest:

We worked in close partnership with Xbox to create a limited edition Quest that reflects the unmistakable Xbox colors. We love the clean look of our standard Quest 3S, but Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition is undeniably sleek in Xbox’s signature Carbon Black, while the Velocity Green accents lend the headset a subtle pop of color that’s unlike anything we’ve done before.

We’re also including a carbon black Elite Strap in the box for increased comfort during your play sessions, plus matching Touch Plus controllers so you’ll have a fully color-coordinated setup for all your gaming needs.

While most obvious use case for this is to play VR games with it, you don't have to exclusively play games that require motion controls. In fact, you can pop the headset on your head, pick up the Xbox controller, and play your games using the headset in the screen. I don't think you can get much more immersive than having the game feed strapped directly to your head, so I'm keen to see how it plays out and how it enhances the experience.

If you want to score one for yourself, they're currently on sale for $399.99. It may seem a little pricey at first, but the key selling point for the Meta Quest range is that all of the rendering is done on the headset itself and doesn't require any additional hardware to function. That means you don't need to hook up the Quest to a PC to play games, but you can if you want to tap into the power of your gaming PC. It's the best of both worlds really. And while the regular Meta Quest 3S isn't a limited product, this special Xbox collab will only go for as long as stocks last, so grab one if you want.
