Murderbot lands season 2 renewal at Apple TV+ ahead of finale

7 hours ago 1

Apple TV+ airs the Murderbot season 1 finale tonight, but the streamer is leaving no question about the series’ future. Murderbot season 2 has just been made official.

Murderbot season 2 will delve further into acclaimed book series

Murderbot is a quirky sci-fi action comedy on Apple TV+ that, in its first season, has defied genre definitions.

At different points it feels like a gory sci-fi action thriller, at other times a comedy, and others a character drama.

This hasn’t always worked, but generally the show offers a fun, 20-some-minute escape.

Murderbot the character has been the series biggest strength, and now Apple has ensured we’ll get to see more of the android’s adventures.

Apple TV+ announced that Murderbot has been renewed for season 2.

From the announcement:

“Chris, Paul, Alexander and the entire ‘Murderbot’ team have delivered a brilliantly original, addictive, witty and vibrant adaptation that has captured the imagination of audiences everywhere,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+. “We can’t wait to unveil what’s next for Murderbot and, of course, ‘Sanctuary Moon’ in season two.”

Creators Chris and Paul Weitz confirmed their involvement, saying: “we’re…delighted that we’re getting to go back to Martha Wells’ world.”

The show is based on the award-winning book series by Martha Wells.

Season 1 only covered the first book, All Systems Red, so there are plenty more books to serve as material for future seasons.

The speedy renewal by Apple hopefully means viewers won’t have to wait too long between seasons. But it’s unlikely we’ll see Murderbot season 2 premiere until spring 2026 at the soonest.
