Summary

  • NotebookLM is launching a Video Overviews feature for visual learners.
  • The Video Overviews provide aesthetically pleasing visuals and detailed content.
  • The feature offers engaging and comprehensive educational videos, with a human-like narrator.

If you’ve used Google’s AI-powered notetaking tool, NotebookLM, you’ve likely converted your sources into an AI-generated podcast using the Audio Overviews feature.

While it’s an incredible tool for those tired of spending hours flipping through pages filled with chunks of text that never seem to end, it doesn’t always hit the mark for visual learners who absorb information best through images and videos. Thankfully, NotebookLM is launching a new Video Overviews feature soon, and we just got our first look at it.

NotebookLM’s upcoming Video Overviews feature is perfect for visual learners

A few days ago, we reported that someone spotted a new Video Overviews button in the Studio panel, right alongside the Audio Overviews button. Today, at Google I/O 2025, Google confirmed that the Video Overviews feature is indeed in the works and will be coming soon.

In a blog post on The Keyword, Google mentions that Video Overviews will allow users to convert the content of their notebook (i.e., sources you've uploaded) into an educational video.

When I first heard of this feature, I had my doubts. AI-generated videos have existed for a while now, and they've never been particularly impressive.

Since I use NotebookLM to study for exams and am not particularly a fan of failing, I couldn’t ever see myself using the Video Overviews feature to prepare for my exams. Surprisingly, my thoughts completely changed as soon as I saw the 54-second preview Google posted.

The video example had visuals that were aesthetically pleasing, including images and diagrams. Key terms were highlighted to stand out, and it even introduced a timeline to show the history behind pentacles. I can imagine this being perfect for those who study courses with lots of dates and facts!

Similar to the Audio Overviews, the narrator in the Video Overviews sounds natural and doesn’t have that strange AI robotic tone you typically notice with most AI tools. Google mentioned that the sequences in the video have been shortened, which likely means the actual Video Overview you’ll get will be longer and more detailed, giving you a comprehensive yet engaging way to review your notes without feeling overwhelmed.

Google hasn't mentioned when the feature is expected to go live, but judging by the progress and the preview shared, it shouldn't be too far off. Audio Overviews also got an exciting upgrade today, allowing you to finally customize how long or short the AI-generated podcast is.
