Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO) said Thursday it plans to spend US$1.2B to modernize its Isle-Maligne hydroelectric power plant, commissioned in 1926, in Quebec, which it said is needed to secure the long-term future of low-carbon aluminum production in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.
