With the Supreme Court’s decision late Friday to grant the Department of Government Efficiency access to Social Security data, concerns over the release of Americans’ personal information have been reignited.
The court’s decision is the latest development in a battle over DOGE’s ability to tap sensitive data — including names, Social Security numbers, birthdays, work history and health information. In May, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to grant DOGE access to the data after it had been blocked by Ellen Lipton Hollander, a Maryland federal district court judge.
