Summary
- A new "Discover widgets" feature is coming to the Windows 11 lock screen for suggested cards periodically.
- A toggle option is provided to control which widgets are displayed or disable them altogether for a cleaner lock screen.
- Windows 11 allows customization of the lock screen for a personalized experience without third-party mods.
I don't mean to alarm anyone, but I think that Microsoft has finally remembered that the Windows 11 lock screen exists. A few days ago, I reported on how Microsoft is adding a battery indicator to Windows 11's lock screen, and honestly, while it should not have taken Microsoft four years to get around to adding one, I'm just glad we finally got there. Now, another lock screen feature has emerged from the woodwork in the beta builds, and honestly, I'd take just about anything at this point.

Once more, we owe this discovery to PhantomOfEarth on X. If you've never heard of them before, they're a fantastic source for all things up and coming with Windows 11. This is because they grab all the latest Windows 11 preview builds and then dig through the system to find any work-in-progress and hidden features that other testers may not even notice. They've been the primary source for countless discoveries, and they do an excellent job keeping on top of things.
Today, PhantomOfEarth discovered a new feature that's coming soon. It's called the "Discover widgets" feature, which claims that it "Periodically updates the lock screen with suggested widgets." Sounds like a great way to experiment with widgets on your lock screen, as well as allowing Windows to show off any new widgets you might have missed in an update.
Fortunately, if you're not a fan of Windows 11 deciding what widgets to show you, the new feature has a toggle option. Turn it off, and you're back to using just the widgets you told Windows 11 to use. You could even just disable widgets altogether for a cleaner lock screen if that's more of your thing, but personally, I love adding additional information for quick reference.
If you haven't put much thought into customizing your Windows lock screen, you really owe it to yourself to dig through the settings and see what you can do with it. While it doesn't quite have every option available just yet, Windows 11 still lets you tinker with the screen and set it up in a way that pleases you best. If you'd like to know more, check out these ways you can customize your Windows 11 lock screen to make it truly yours, all of which can be done within the operating system itself and require no third-party mods.
