ZDNET's key takeaways

  • The Doogee Tab A9 Pro+ is on sale for $125 on Amazon.
  • It feels like a more expensive tablet, and runs Android 15 smoothly thanks to the 24GB of RAM.
  • The battery takes a while to charge because it's limited to 10W.

Android tablets have exploded, especially in that sub-iPad price point. But a problem with a lot of cheap tablets is that they feel, well, cheap. And the performance can also be a bit lacking.

The Doogee Tab A9 Pro+ challenges that stereotype because it looks and feels like a much more expensive tablet, especially at this sale price of $125.

This Android 15 tablet is powered by an octa-core processor, packing 6GB of physical RAM and utilizing an additional 24GB of virtual RAM, and displaying everything on an 11-inch full HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

I especially like the fact that Doogee set the Tab A9 Pro+ to make use of the of the full 24GB of virtual RAM out of the box. This makes a huge difference to performance at little cost to storage capacity. And if storage does become tight, it's a small matter to add a microSD card, where you can choose anything up to 2TB.

The tablet epitomizes the concept of thin-and-light. It's just 7.9 mm thin (only 0.1 mm thicker than an iPhone) and weighs 644 grams. This makes it perfect for holding for extended periods when you get caught up in the latest Netflix series.

7.9mm thin gives this tablet a premium feel.

And talking about streaming content, the tablet is Widevine L1 certified, allowing it to stream 1080P high-definition content from Netflix, Prime Video, and other major providers.

The battery is also a generous with a 8,580mAh capacity that delivers over six hours of video playback, a day and a half of music playback, and 24 days standby. Mixed usage works out at about eight hours, so this tablet offers all-day runtime.

Charging is at 10W -- not particularly fast, so this tablet is the sort of thing you'll leave on charge overnight -- and it also has a 5W reverse charging functionality, so the tablet can act as a power bank for things like phones and earbuds.

The 13-megapixel camera on the rear is good for social media photography and document scanning, and the 5-megapixel front-facing camera does the job for face unlock and video conferencing.

ZDNET's buying advice

If you're looking for a decent 11-inch tablet that can run Android 15 and your apps smoothly (and you want something thin and light), the Doogee Tab A9 Pro+ is definitely worth a look. I've been running this tablet fore a few weeks now, and it's performed well, with my only complaint really being the slow 10W battery recharge limit.

And right now, the Tab A9 Pro+ is available for $125, an incredibly competitive price point for a tablet with this hardware.
