The Golden Bachelor is back on ABC after a two-year hiatus. The new season, premiering Wednesday, Sept. 24, will introduce viewers to Mel Owens, the show’s new leading man. Who are The Golden Bachelor Season 2 contestants vying for Owens’ heart?

Owens is a newcomer to The Bachelor franchise, having been chosen for Season 2 after a friend encouraged him to apply for the show. A former NFL player for the LA Rams, he later became a lawyer specializing in sports-related injury cases. During this period, he met his "first love," Fabiana Pimentel, with whom he had two sons.

"While life took an unexpected turn with the passing of his father and the end of his marriage, Owens channeled his energy into being the best father he could be, focusing on raising his sons and coaching their extracurricular sports teams," according to ABC. Owens is now ready to meet someone "who shares this vision and finally find that perfect teammate he's been waiting for in his golden years."

This summer, the 66-year-old Michigan native faced criticism for stating on a podcast that he wanted to eliminate all women over 60 from the show. He later apologized for his comments and revealed that he had addressed the issue directly with the contestants.

"Those [opinions and comments] were a mistake by me. It's unfair. It's insensitive, like I said. And I want to earn it back. I have to earn it back every single moment that I'm on the show," he told Glamour while filming Season 2.

The former NFL player continued, “I apologized to the women on the show. When I first walked in, I addressed it. I apologized to them. I said, 'It was unfair, insensitive. I want to earn it back. Just give me the chance.' And hopefully, these last two weeks I earned some of that back.”

Who Are The Golden Bachelor Season 2 Contestants?

In early September, ABC revealed the cast for Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor. The singles range from ages 58 to 77 and hail from locations such as Miami, Los Angeles, Napa Valley and Las Vegas.Their professions include a retired firefighter, an interior designer, a cosmetic dentist, a fitness professional and more.
