Google Fi rolling out visual voicemail support for the iPhone

1 week ago 2

As previewed in April, Google Fi Wireless is rolling out support for visual voicemail on the iPhone. With this update, voicemail will no longer be available in the Fi app.

Going forward, voicemail will appear in the iOS Phone app. Previously, subscribers had to use the Google Fi companion app to hear and read those messages.

Now, Fi users will be able to “play, share, and delete voicemail messages directly through their device’s Phone app. Additionally, they will “no longer receive duplicate voicemail notifications from both the Fi and Phone apps.”

As part of this change, the MVNO is “phasing out voicemail within the Google Fi app for iOS users.” You’re encouraged to “download them using Google Takeout before August 13th.” More instructions are available here.

Visual voicemail is rolling out starting today, with Google Fi expecting full availability by July 2. After that date, you can “use your Phone app to set up your voicemail and manage greetings.

Visual voicemail on the iPhone followed iOS 18.4 adding RCS support earlier this year. Google Fi’s 10th birthday also saw simplified iPhone setup and activation, international 5G service in 92 countries with certain plans, and data-only eSIMs.
