Some of the greatest video game series people constantly go back to play come from Nintendo. Their games have come to be known for their colorful characters, amazing new worlds, and incredibly fun gameplay that have become world-renowned. But despite so many great games released over the years, some beloved Nintendo franchises have receded into the background, allowing others to take the spotlight on various Nintendo platforms. Because of this, Nintendo has more than just a few popular franchises to be relevant. Yet at the same time, the desire of players to see certain series that have gone away make a triumphant return continually grows with each passing year.
With the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 onto the market, now is the perfect time for Nintendo to revisit some of these elusive franchises. We'll always get a new Mario-related game to show up on a brand-new console from Nintendo, but many feel it's a good idea for the company to include more beyond that. With so many characters within the Nintendo pantheon, there's no shortage of ideas for the company to explore for their latest console. Here are 4 franchises that should make a big return on the Nintendo Switch 2 that everyone wants to see.

4 Star Fox
We need more barrel rolls
Although Star Fox is a legendary series that has garnered a lot of critical and commercial success over the years, some of the more recent games haven't been received well. The last entry in the Star Fox franchise was on the Nintendo Wii U, Star Fox Zero, and was a retelling of the events from the classic Star Fox 64. Nintendo fans might love going back to the things they loved about that game, but it's long past due that the series moved forward significantly. This means taking the best characteristics of Star Fox 64, and even some of the older Star Fox SNES titles and creating something entirely new and original. One of the most important franchises that began on the Super Nintendo should not be forgotten and left out of the library of upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games.
Another valid argument for this series is the Star Fox games from the Nintendo GameCube era, specifically Star Fox Adventures. With the Nintendo Switch 2 having 3D platformers set to release soon and a few older Switch titles that are backwards compatible, it wouldn't be crazy to see a Star Fox 3D platformer fit right in. However, this might seem unlikely because many believe Star Fox is better suited to its roots as a flight action game. But there's plenty of room for new ideas and unique games on the Nintendo Switch 2; the company just needs to get the series to appear on it in some form.
3 Kid Icarus
Divine action for us

Source: Nintendo
If there's one very underutilized series within Nintendo's backlog of franchises, it's most likely Kid Icarus. Many have fond memories of the NES game that became a classic over the years, as well as the series reboot on the Nintendo 3DS that was released in 2012. Another game in between them was also on the Game Boy, titled Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters. But there hasn't been much done with the series beyond those few releases. And what's sad is that Kid Icarus has plenty of interesting things that fans love just from those few games that Nintendo developed, all of which could work out very well on a new platform like the Nintendo Switch 2. Not only would a collection bringing together those three games be a great idea, but there's clearly a desire to see more of Kid Icarus in a new release.
What exactly could that be? Most likely a follow-up to the 2012 game for the Nintendo 3DS, especially since that is the version of the character that also appeared in other big Nintendo titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It's a modern take on the character of Pit and the world of Kid Icarus, which can be further built out with new characters and more. As a whole, Kid Icarus might not be as popular or successful as other Nintendo franchises like Metroid or Fire Emblem, but that's only because the company hasn't revisited it as much as others. Hopefully, in the coming years, this will change for what is a very good series of games.

These GameCube games are so rare and expensive that you may never get to own them. Here's why they're so valuable!
2 F-Zero
Our need for speed
Arguably, the most requested series to return by Nintendo fans is F-Zero, and for very good reason. The last main F-Zero game was released on the Nintendo GameCube, with two additional games that came out on the Game Boy Advance shortly after. But for a long time, the series went on a big hiatus until the Nintendo Switch saw the release of F-Zero 99, an online multiplayer version of the SNES game that used mechanics from other battle royale-style titles. For a long time, Nintendo fans have just not received a new F-Zero game for any Nintendo consoles that pushed the series forward. The leading character of the series, Captain Falcon, has made various appearances in multiple Nintendo games since F-Zero GX came out, despite no other titles in the series having ever been in development.
Does that mean the series will remain dormant? Not exactly, especially with the Nintendo GameCube games being added to the Switch Online Expansion Pass, which includes F-Zero GX as one of the titles for Switch 2. Discussions among Nintendo fans online have continuously brought up the series as one that should make a major comeback, mostly based on the success of other racing titles that were clearly inspired by F-Zero in significant ways. Racing games are a popular genre among players, and a futuristic racing game will stand out from other big releases that focus on realism and simulation racing. This is one franchise Nintendo should not keep on the shelf any longer.
1 Wario Land
Greed has always been good

Source: Nintendo
Wario is a very popular character from the Super Mario series, even though he's a greedy and sneaky one. While Mario is the light-hearted good hero, Wario is all about doing things for himself and getting over everybody else. It was these personality traits that led to the release and success of the Wario Land series, which were spin-off titles from the Super Mario Land series on the Game Boy. And while Wario would appear in other games and have great success with the WarioWare titles for different platforms, plenty of Nintendo fans speak highly of the Wario Land games. The series would see a few console releases under different titles, including Wario World on the GameCube and Wario Land: Shake It for the Nintendo Wii.
So why did Nintendo stop making these games? Most likely, it was due to the success of the WarioWare games and the trend of more casual experiences doing very well with audiences. But that doesn't mean any of the Wario games before that were failures, nor does the series not have a viable option for a successful new release. Not only would a collection of the previous Wario Land games be great to see, but a new Wario Land that blends together the best parts of the 2D and 3D games would be fun to see released on Switch 2. In the same way that characters like Mario and Donkey Kong have new 3D adventures that celebrate all aspects of the characters, Wario could find the same level of reception and success. On top of that, it would be very different from those characters, based on Wario's personality and the franchise's sense of humor, offering something new to players. It might be greedy to ask Nintendo to do something like this for a series that's been away for a while, but when it comes to anything Wario-related, greed is always good.
Reviving franchises on Nintendo Switch 2
Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally out, there are many years ahead for the console to see exciting new games developed and released for it. While we'll get those staple Nintendo releases that people will love to play, the Nintendo Switch 2 presents an opportunity for the company to find great success among their many franchises and diversify the library of their new console. Nintendo fans are yearning for series they haven't seen in a long time, and are ready to pay up for new games they can play on their new console. Who knows what we might see in the next few years, but hopefully, it means that Nintendo Switch 2 will be the catalyst to revive the Nintendo franchises people want to see again.
