macOS 26 now rumored to drop support for at least one additional Intel Mac

Apple discontinues 8GB RAM Macs as the entire lineup now starts with 16GB

Last week, we got reports that macOS 26 will drop support for a couple of the last generation Intel Macs, though not all of them. However, a reliable source is now reporting that one additional Intel Mac will no longer support macOS 26 – which is now rumored to be named after California’s Lake Tahoe.

New rumor

This news comes from a reputable private account on X who regularly shares accurate information on upcoming Apple software updates. Though, we choose not to identify this account as they’ve chosen to be private.

According to the account, the 2020 13″ MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt ports won’t receive support for macOS 26. They add that they “don’t quite believe it”, though I personally think it makes a lot of sense.

The 2 port version of the 2020 13″ MacBook Pro utilized an older 8th generation Intel processor (similar to 2018 models), whereas only the 4 port version utilized the latest 10th generation chipsets. Since rumors already suggested that Apple would not support the 2018 models, this tracks.

Device roundup

In summary, macOS 26 will reportedly support these Macs:

  • MacBook Air (M1) or later
  • MacBook Pro (2020, 4 port model) or later
  • iMac (2020) or later
  • Mac Pro (2019) or later
  • Mac mini (M1) or later
  • Mac Studio (all models)

If you have a 2018 Mac mini, 2017 iMac Pro (only model), or 2020 Intel MacBook Air – you won’t be receiving the macOS 26 update if rumors hold up. As for the MacBook Pro side of things, 2020 13-inch 2 port models are no longer rumored to be supported, as well as all 2018 models.

This new rumor complicates things a bit when it comes to 2019 models. It’s rather unlikely that Apple would support all 2019 MacBook Pros while dropping the 2020 13-inch 2 port model specifically. I could imagine a scenario where Apple supports the 2019 16-inch and 2020 4 port 13-inch models, while dropping everything older.
