Summary

  • Windows 11 is lacking in customization options for the Start menu and taskbar, a feature from prior versions.
  • Microsoft added a new battery icon on the lock screen in a recent beta version of Windows 11.
  • Features like the new battery icon need to be added soon to keep new Windows 10 users satisfied with Windows 11.

We're coming up to Windows 11's fourth birthday in October, and still, to me, it doesn't feel like all of the features are truly there yet. The biggest bugbear for me is the lack of customization with the Start menu and the taskbar, something that has had specific customization options in prior versions of Windows, which seemingly vanished in 11 without any sign of them getting readded any time soon. As such, Windows 11 updates are less about celebrating what's new and more about being happy with features that should have been there from the start, which is a little depressing.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that Microsoft has added a new feature to the lock screen, and while it's really good and I'm very much happy that it exists, I can't help but feel that it should have been there since day one. Ah, well; better late than never, I suppose.

Windows 11 finally gets the new battery icon on the lock screen

Puter OS opened in a browser on Windows 11 PC

Earlier today, Microsoft released a new beta version of Windows 11 for testing. The main event wasn't too exciting, but as usual, the juicy details were tucked away, hidden within the code that Microsoft is working on. Fortunately, we have the ever-reliable Phantom of Earth, who digs through this code and shows us all the new stuff that they found.

This time, they noticed the new battery icon is getting added to the Windows 11 lock screen. We refer to it as the "new battery icon" because Microsoft is working on a new power indicator that changes color and displays the remaining percentage. And now, it seems the Redmond giant has plans to allow portable device users to see how much juice they have left without logging into Windows 11.

Microsoft will hopefully introduce these nice features soon, as we're seeing Windows 10 users making the transition to Windows 11. If Microsoft wants to make Windows 11 as comfortable as possible for these new arrivals, it really needs to get these missing features added as soon as possible else people are going to be really disappointed.
