Today, Sony officially confirmed Apple Pay support for the PlayStation Store on both PS4 and PS5. This allows users in supported regions to complete purchases using their iPhone or iPad. Here’s how it works.

With the new integration (via MacRumors), iPhone and iPad users in “supported countries” can now purchase games and subscriptions directly from the PlayStation.

The process is pretty straightforward, according to Sony:

  1. Choose a game or an add-on from PlayStation Store and select Add to Cart.
  2. Select Apple Pay as your payment method at checkout.
  3. Click Confirm Purchase.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your payment.

According to Sony’s support page, Apple Pay is now accepted on the PlayStation Store in 54 countries and regions, including Argentina, France, Germany, Japan, the U.S., and the UK.

Sony also says that you need to make sure you “have Apple Pay set up on your phone or another iOS device,” and that if you run into issues, you should “try making the purchase online or use an alternative payment method”.

Apple tees up gaming ahead of WWDC

The timing of today’s news is interesting. Apple is just days away from WWDC, where it’s expected to announce deeper integration between the Apple Vision Pro and third-party gaming accessories, including PlayStation and PSVR2 controllers.

And while today’s feature may have nothing to do with the Apple Vision Pro, it does align with reports that claim gaming will take center stage during Apple’s WWDC25 announcements.

WWDC25: What to expect

Apple is expected to unveil major updates across all its platforms, including iOS 26macOS 26iPadOS 26watchOS 26, and more. With AI reportedly playing a smaller role this year, the spotlight will likely fall on design refreshes and long-time wishlist picks like better window management support on the iPad.

The keynote kicks off Monday, June 9, and 9to5Mac will feature full coverage before, during, and after the event. See you then!
