A pair of market intelligence reports show that the Apple Watch and AirPods continue to dominate the global market in their respective categories.
However, Apple’s long-held lead in the smartwatch market is now being challenged by Huawei, according to the latest estimates …
AirPods
Market intelligence company Counterpoint Research has published a pair of reports, the first on the in-ear headphone market – a category technically referred to as TWS (true wireless stereo).
Apple’s new model lineup has reinvigorated the market, and the upcoming release of the AirPods Pro 3 is expected to stimulate replacement demand among existing Pro users with its enhanced healthcare features and immersive audio experience. However, due to the high price point of the Pro model, it is unlikely to drive growth in terms of shipment volumes.
A more noticeable increase in volume is expected around 2027, when the standard AirPods and a new ANC-equipped version are released.
The firm reports that Apple’s share of the global market remains static (down 0.4%) at around 21%. This leaves it the undisputed market leader, with second-placed Huawei at just 8%, and no other brands with more than 5% of the market.
Apple Watch
In the smartwatch market, Apple for many years held a market share of more than 50%, accounting for a clear majority of sales. That couldn’t last forever, of course, and Apple’s share has gradually shrunk to an estimated 20% today.
That still leaves the Cupertino company the market leader, with second-placed Huawei at 16%.
Despite witnessing a YoY decline for the sixth consecutive quarter, Apple retained its top position in the global market, driven by its growing iOS user base.
However, with Apple’s share continuing to shrink while Huawei enjoys rapid growth amid its continued push beyond its traditional strongholds of China and India, that position could change in the next year or two.
Strong performances from Huawei, Imoo and Xiaomi [meant] these leading Chinese brands not only strengthened their foothold in the domestic market but also gained traction internationally, intensifying competition for established global players.
