Lots of games go on steep discount during the Steam Summer Sale, but very rarely do they ever go completely free. If you're on the hunt for something to play but don't want to spend a lot of money on it, then why not give Black Desert a try? Originally a buy-to-play game without a monthly subscription fee, the game has become free to keep forever, so grab it before the Steam Summer Sale ends and the game returns to its normal price.

Why you should grab Black Desert this Steam Summer Sale

While it's hard to argue with a free game, it's still worth taking a look at if Black Desert is for you. After all, the game may be free, but it will still ask you for a lot of your time, and you don't want to spend it on a game you end up not liking.

At its core, Black Desert is a sandbox MMO where people can make player housing and forge their own path. Unlike most MMO games, Black Desert requires you to aim and attack much like you would in an action game, making it a good pick if you're not a fan of standing still and hitting ability hotkeys. There's a big focus on PVP, and open-world PVP does happen, but if you do get taken out while doing your own thing, there's no penalty for coming back.

Black Desert is a one-time purchase game with no subscription fee. To continue operations, the developers have an extensive microtransaction store where players can purchase extra boosts. This has caused some people to believe the game is "pay-to-win," but from what I can see, others are quick to point out that you can get the same level of power from playing the game, so if you're willing to put in the time, you can compete with people who pay just fine.

If you want to give it a taste test, you can add the game to your account for free until June 10th, after which it will return to its original $9.99 price tag. You can also check out our sister site, The Gamer, which published a piece asking why people aren't playing Black Desert these days.
